USMCA trade agreement replaces NAFTA and comes into effect on July 1, 2020. The existing TN1 visa regime under NAFTA is broadly expected to continue under USMCA as well.

Professionals | Up to 3 years | Up to 3 years with no limit on renewals |
Intra-company transferees | Up to 3 years | Up to 2 years with a total duration of 7 years for executive or managerial employees, and a total duration of 5 years for specialized knowledge. The employee must work outside Canada for at least a year after the total duration |
Traders and investors | Up to 1 year | Up to 2 years with no limit on renewals |
